Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the signing of 16-year-old forward, AJ Herring, on a 2-way agreement with Peterborough Phantoms for the remainder of the 25/26 season!

This will be AJ’s first taste of Division 1 hockey, earning the opportunity after a strong start to the season with both the NIHL2 and NIHL Peterborough Phantoms squads.

Despite his age, AJ already has previous experience of senior hockey, having competed in last season’s playoffs with Phantoms 2, racking up an impressive 12 points (6 goals + 6 assists) from just 5 games. Herring has continued his streak into this year and we can’t wait to see how he reacts to the step-up.

Following his signing to Widnes, AJ commented,

“I’m really excited to be joining Widnes and taking the next step in my career into a higher league. I can’t wait to get started with the team and see you soon, Wild fans!”

Meanwhile, Head Coach Tom Jackson added,

“AJ has had a solid start in Peterborough at the start of this season and he has continued training with the national team since signing this summer.

Thank you to Peterborough for helping make this happen and I’m looking forward to seeing what AJ can achieve within this league on the next step of his journey.

From speaking to coaches I’m looking forward to see AJ pull on the wild jersey, play with the same energy and show the fans what he can do.”

Please join us in welcoming AJ to Widnes!
