OUR Story OF PASSION AND SUCCESS

The Widnes Wild Ice Hockey Club, established in 2013, has rapidly become a prominent team in British ice hockey. Based at the Planet Ice rink in Widnes, Cheshire, the club has demonstrated consistent growth and success over the years.

Formation and Early Years (2013-2015):

In their inaugural 2013-14 season, the Wild competed in the English National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) North Division 2 (Laidler Conference). They finished 5th, recording 11 wins, 1 draw, and 16 losses, with a goal difference of -50. The following season, 2014-15, saw improvement as they secured 4th place with 20 wins, 2 draws, and 14 losses, achieving a +37 goal difference.

Rise to Prominence (2015-2019):

The 2015-16 season marked a significant upturn in performance, with the Wild finishing 2nd, boasting 19 wins, 3 draws, and only 6 losses, and a +86 goal difference. This upward trajectory continued in the 2016-17 season, where they again secured 2nd place with 20 wins, 4 draws, and 4 losses, and a +59 goal difference. The 2017-18 season mirrored this success, with the team finishing 2nd, achieving 23 wins and 9 losses, and a +82 goal difference. The pinnacle of this period was the 2018-19 season, where the Wild clinched the Laidler Division championship, dominating the league with 28 wins and only 4 losses, and an impressive +140 goal difference.

Recent Developments (2019-Present):

In the 2019-20 season, the Wild finished 4th, securing 15 wins and 7 losses, with a +51 goal difference. The club’s commitment to excellence is evident in their consistent performance and strategic player development. Notably, Tom Jackson, who joined midway through the inaugural season, has been a stalwart in defense, amassing over 326 games and 83 points over a decade. In the 2024-25 season, Jackson transitioned to the role of player-coach, reflecting his deep commitment to the team’s development.

The Widnes Wild’s journey from their formation to their current status is a testament to their dedication and passion for the sport. As they continue to build on their legacy, the club remains a central figure in promoting ice hockey within the region.
