Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the re-signing of forward Jared Knowles on a two-way contract with Widnes Wild Division 1 and Widnes Wild Division 2 for the 2026/27 season.
Another proud member of the Widnes Wild Academy, Knowles returns for another year with his hometown club after already gaining two seasons of valuable senior experience with the Division 1 side.
The 2026/27 campaign marks another important step in Jared’s development, with a two-way agreement allowing him to continue progressing across both the Division 1 and newly formed Division 2 teams. The move reflects the club’s commitment to providing a clear pathway for young players, creating opportunities to gain meaningful senior ice time while continuing their development within the Wild organisation.
Known for his pace, physicality and relentless work ethic, Knowles has established himself as another successful product of the Wild Academy. His willingness to compete every shift and commitment to improving his game make him an exciting player to watch as he continues his senior career in Widnes.
Speaking after agreeing to return for the 2026/27 season, Knowles said:
“I am really happy to be back with the Wild for next season as I love playing for my hometown team and am looking forward to improving on last season.
I’m also excited for the new challenge of the NIHL 2 Wild team and I’m ready to help both teams compete in the league.”
D2 Head Coach Andy Rourke believes Knowles’ experience and attitude will be a valuable asset to the organisation this season.
“Signing a young player with two years of senior hockey experience into our lineup gives us an immediate competitive advantage.
Jared brings a solid work ethic and adds a fast, physical element to the team. He will be looking to make an impact from the first puck drop.”
Knowles’ return is another example of the success of the Wild Academy pathway, with homegrown players continuing to progress through the club’s structure into senior hockey. His two-way contract provides the ideal platform to continue his development while contributing across both senior teams, further strengthening the connection between the Academy, Division 2 and Division 1.

Player sponsorship packages for Jared are now available, offering businesses and supporters the chance to partner with one of the Wild Academy’s success stories. Sponsors will receive exposure across the club’s social media channels, website and matchnight communications throughout the season while supporting the continued development of homegrown talent in Widnes.
Fans can also secure a piece of the action through the club’s popular Own & Loan scheme. Both Knowles’ home and away jerseys are available for £75 each, giving supporters the opportunity to follow another exciting season before taking ownership of a game-worn jersey at the end of the campaign.
