A Familiar Face In Leadership

Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the re-signing of Assistant Captain Johnathan Williamson for the 2026/27 season.

Since arriving in Widnes in 2022, Williamson has become one of the most important figures within the organisation, combining consistent performances on the ice with strong leadership qualities off it. His calm and composed presence on the blue line, coupled with his ability to deliver in high-pressure situations, has made him one of the most dependable players in the Wild lineup.

Now entering his fifth season with the club, Williamson remains a key part of the leadership group as the Wild continue their pursuit of success both on and off the ice.

A reliable two-way defenceman, Williamson recorded 14 points in 35 league appearances during the 2025/26 campaign while continuing to play a significant role in setting standards within the dressing room.

Speaking following his return, Williamson said:

“Can’t wait to be back playing at Widnes Wild. We’ve made huge steps as a club on and off the ice and I’m looking forward to helping us take the next step forward by putting up more wins and climbing up the league table.

The club feels like a family now so it was an easy decision to stay with the lads! See you in September!”

Head Coach Tom Jackson was equally pleased to secure the return of one of the club’s key leaders.

“Jonho has been a key leader within this group since joining the organisation in 2022.

His calming presence on the back end and his consistency in high-pressure moments have made him one of the most reliable players in our structure. I’m delighted to have him returning to the organisation as we continue building toward our goals.”

With Williamson returning for another season in Widnes colours, supporters and businesses now have the opportunity to back one of the club’s most influential players for the 2026/27 campaign.

Player sponsorship packages for Jonho are now available, offering a fantastic opportunity for local businesses and supporters to partner with one of the Wild’s assistant captains. Sponsorship provides exposure across the club’s social media channels, website and matchnight communications throughout the season, while directly supporting the continued growth of the organisation.

Fans can also get their hands on a piece of the action through the club’s Own & Loan scheme. Both Hopkins’ home and away jerseys are available for £70 each, giving supporters the chance to follow the captain’s journey throughout the season before being presented with his game-worn jersey at its conclusion.
