A Wild Birthday Present

Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the return of forward Flynn Massie for the 2026/27 season, with the 19-year-old joining the club on a two-way agreement with Peterborough Phantoms.

Entering his fourth season in Widnes, Massie returns to the Wild following an outstanding 2025/26 campaign which saw him finish as the club’s top points scorer, recording an impressive 40 points.

The new agreement represents a significant step forward in Flynn’s development, giving him the opportunity to test himself at National League level with Peterborough while continuing to represent Widnes throughout the season.

Peterborough will be Flynn’s primary team for the upcoming campaign, but the two-way agreement will see him return to the Jungle whenever required, allowing him to continue his connection with the Wild while gaining valuable experience at the next level of British hockey.

For Widnes, the opportunity is another example of the club’s commitment to helping its players progress and reach their potential. Having worked hard over the past few seasons to establish himself as an important part of the Wild lineup, Flynn has now earned the chance to take his game to the National League.

The club is incredibly proud to see him take that next step and is delighted to be able to continue supporting his development while he takes on this new challenge.

Speaking about the move, Massie said:

“Happy to be on a two-way with Widnes. It’s going to be good for me to be able to help the team when I play as Peterborough will be my main team this season.

“TJ looks like he’s building a solid team that can look to be pushing on further up the table and it will be good to be a part of that.

“Hope all the fans are having a good summer and I will see you guys soon.”

Head Coach Tom Jackson is equally pleased to see Flynn rewarded with the opportunity to compete at National League level.

“Flynn has obviously come in this year on a two-way from Peterborough. He has been given a fantastic opportunity this season to show himself at the National League level after working hard over the past couple of seasons with us.

“He will primarily be playing in Peterborough but will still pull on a Wild shirt from time to time this season as part of the two-way agreement with Peterborough.

“When he does, I’ll be looking forward to him performing to that standard which he will be setting for himself at the National level.”

Flynn’s progression is a reflection of the development-focused environment the Wild are continuing to build. The club’s ambition is not only to develop players within its own structure, but to support them when opportunities arise to take their careers further.

For Massie, that opportunity now comes in the form of National League hockey, and the Wild are proud to have played a part in his journey to this point. The two-way agreement allows Flynn to continue challenging himself at a higher level while retaining the opportunity to pull on the black and yellow throughout the campaign.

Following his 40-point season, Flynn now heads into the next chapter of his career with a new challenge ahead of him, and everyone at Widnes Wild will be following his progress closely.

And with today’s announcement landing on his birthday, there couldn’t be a better present for the young forward.

Happy birthday, Flynn! We can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings.
