Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the re-signing of defenceman, #77 Ben McLellan for the 25/26 season!

This season will be Ben’s first full campaign with the Wild, having joined in late September from fellow NIHL1 side, Blackburn Hawks where he’d spent the past 3 years.

McLellan quickly made an impact within the squad and became our top-scoring D man last season, posting 15 points (3 goals + 12 assists) from 30 games.

Ben proved a valuable asset to the team and often stood up for his teammates during crucial moments throughout the season. Paired with his strong all-round play, his efforts saw him earn Coaches’ player of the year.

Following his return, Ben commented,

“I’m very excited to be coming back for my second season with Widnes Wild.

From the very beginning, I knew it would be the right move for me to develop my game.

As soon as I made the move from Blackburn, the fans, staff and players have all been so welcoming and I look forward to returning next season!

See you all there!”

Meanwhile, Head Coach Tom Jackson added,

“We brought Ben into the team a few weeks after the launch of the 24/25 season.

He is a player who we wanted on the team, because we knew his worth and potential. Ben had spent a couple of seasons in the Widnes junior set up before going to Blackburn Hawks where he made the move from last year.

Firstly I have to express what a true team player Ben is… he’s great in the locker room, holds high standards, competes at trainings and games week in, week out and he gives everything to the squad.

Ben brings grit to the line up, plays a physical game, but also has a good skillset which he showcased last year, posting solid numbers for a defender.

He plays for the jersey and leaves it all out there on the ice for the team, fans and club.

Ben is a valuable re-signing for us this coming season a no brainer to have back. I have no doubts he will contribute immensely to what we want to achieve next year.”
