CAPTAINING THE CLAW!

Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the re-signing of forward, #17 Andrew Hopkins as Captain for the 25/26 season!

This season will be Andrew’s 4th consecutive year with the Wild and 2nd as Captain, following his move from NIHL 2 side Altrincham Aces back in 2022!

Hopkins is a core member of the squad and was our top goal-scorer last season, lighting the lamp on 22 occasions throughout the 24/25 campaign!

Following his return to the Wild, Andrew commented,

“Looking forward to getting back to Widnes for my 4th year.

It was an easy decision for me to come back when TJ asked towards the end of last season after having the honour to captain such a good group of lads.

The fans proved last year they are some of the best in the league with their continued support during a difficult rebuild year.

Following the fairly disappointing season result-wise last year, the development was clearly seen towards the end of the season as results and performances improved.

I’m hoping to build on my personal performances next year and I am excited to see the team grow over the off-season as we look to improve on where we finished off last season, and work our way up the league table. See you in September!”

Whilst Head Coach, Tom Jackson added,

“Its great to have Hoppy back for another season in Widnes. He was consistently good for us last season, producing a lot of goals and playing the way we wanted to play.

Hoppy was captain last season, he brought a good level head and was a player the team looked to for guidance which he dealt with well.

He is a mature head on the team and really leads from the front, by example of how he acts and how he plays which is something we definitely want to bring back for the coming season. Hoppy was an easy choice to re-sign for the team being listed as one of the players right at the top of the list.

We would also like to announce Hoppy as Captain once again. Each season he has been in Widnes colours he has elevated his game and I’m excited to what he brings this coming season once again as Captain coming off the back of his best season to date.”
