Edwards Returns Home to the Wild

Widnes Wild have welcomed back a familiar face to the roster, with Rhys Edwards returning to the club from local rivals Deeside Dragons for the remainder of the 2026/27 season.

Edwards previously spent two seasons in Widnes between 2022/23 and 2023/24, including his first season of senior hockey, making the Wild the club where his senior career first began.

He continued his development after leaving Widnes, moving onto a two-way with National League side Hull Seahawks before spending a season in Hull, followed by a move to Deeside Dragons. After spending last season and the opening part of the current campaign with the Dragons, Edwards has now opted to return to where it all started as he looks to work his way back into the Wild line-up and make an impact in black and yellow.

The return sees Edwards bring further experience and competition to an already strong Widnes roster, with the forward keen to get back on the ice in front of the Wild faithful.

“I am really excited to be signing back with the Widnes Wild this season,” said Edwards. “After the first few results and seeing the roster this year, I’m excited to try and work my way into the team and grow. Who’s ready to chase some silverware?”

Head Coach Tom Jackson was equally pleased to see Edwards return to the Jungle, having continued to keep an eye on the player since his departure.

“Rhys has been consistently difficult to play against since leaving Widnes a few seasons ago. He’s been on my radar ever since, so I’m delighted to bring him back to Widnes for the remainder of the season,” said Jackson.

The Wild head coach will now look for Edwards to quickly settle back into the environment and learn the systems as he competes for his opportunity within the squad.

“I’ll be looking for Rhys to get up to speed with our systems and settle into the group quickly. It will be exciting to see how he performs in black and yellow alongside the squad we’ve assembled this season.

“He adds valuable depth to an already competitive team, and there are exciting times ahead for this group.”

Edwards’ return adds another layer of depth to a Widnes side looking to build on its strong start to the 2026/27 campaign, while also bringing another player into the fold who already knows what it means to wear the Wild jersey.
