Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the signing of forward, #16 Mikey Gilbert for the 25/26 season!

This will be Gilbert’s 8th consecutive season with the club, having played over 200 games in a Widnes jersey and is currently the club’s 2nd highest top-points scorer since joining from NIHL 2 side, Altrincham Aces back in 2017.

Last season, Mikey was not only the club’s top-points scorer but also recorded his highest tally since the club stepped up into Division 1, with 49 points (16 goals + 33 assists) alongside 8 PIMS from 34 games.

Mikey is truly a core member of our squad and has stuck with the side through many triumphs, such as Playoff Champions, League Champions and most recently the 2022 Moralee Cup against SNL team, Dundee Comets. Additionally, Mikey is the Head Coach of our Academy, helping develop players up through the pathway.

Following his return to the squad, Mikey commented, 

“It is great to be back on board once again icing for Widnes this coming season. When I was asked to return I accepted straight away as its hard to turn down playing in front of the best fans in the league. The second half of last season we were performing and competing against all teams and came up with some good results so we have some unfinished business to attend to this season to make sure that continues for the full 25-26 season. 

Looking forward to what the new season will bring so we can show a true account of ourselves and really push on up the table and imprint our identity in the league. 

Fans, I can’t wait to see you all again and some new ones too. Hopefully you will be packing out the Jungle every home game, once again showing your pride for the club and we will give it everything on the ice every night for you!”

Meanwhile, Head Coach Tom Jackson added, 

“I’m delighted to bring Mikey back for his 8th season, last season he lead with his consistency putting up regular points through the course of the year and became our top-points scorer, recording just shy of 50 points proving his wealth to the squad.

Mikey has become a great asset to the team both on and off the ice and I will be looking to build on last year with him in the line up, whilst also helping to develop players through our academy pathway working closely together.
