The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the return of forward #17 Andrew Hopkins for the 23/24 season.
Hopkins began playing hockey for Belfast giants U20s in 2015 and previously played at NIHL D2 side Altrincham aces, totaling over 30 points in his 2 seasons, before making his wild debut last September. He contributed 10 points to the team (2 goals + 8 assists), over 29 games, despite an injury part-way through the season.
Head Coach Joey Coulter was keen to have Hopkins return to the squad and said the following about his new contract;
“Andrew Hopkins is a great addition to the squad, experienced his first year of Div 1 hockey last season and he never once looked out of place. You could see Hoppy improving his game every week, realising more and more what he was capable of. I think now that he has some experience under his belt, and coming off the back of some good individual form at the end of year – we will see Hopkins on the scoresheet more frequently. I think most of the squad will agree without a doubt Hoppy is one of the best training players in the league, now we watch as he transfers those production levels into game days.”
Hopkins then stated about his return, “Glad to be coming back to Widnes for the upcoming season. Looking to improve on last seasons results after a disappointing end to last year. Excited to see where the team goes with Joey’s first full season as coach. Can’t wait to get going in September, and hopefully bring some silverware back to Widnes!”
