The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are pleased to announce the return of Jake Meehan for the 23/24 season.
The upcoming season will be Meehan’s first full year as a senior player, after finishing the Wild academy in April as the U18s captain. In the end of season awards, he was awarded the players’ player and Paul O’Prey award for his contributions. Jake appeared 24 times in the roster for Widnes last season, helping him to gain experience at a higher level which will hopefully be shown in games this year.
Player-coach Joey Coulter said the following on Meehan:
‘Jake Meehan has come through the junior ranks here at Widnes and I have no doubt he bleeds black and yellow. He’s got raw talent and understands the game well, we need to tweak a couple of things to make that transition from junior to senior as smooth as possible. Last season he got a taste of division one hockey and we’ll be working with Jake so he can take bigger strides towards eating bigger minutes for us, paving the way for future juniors making the breakthrough.’
Whilst Jake commented:
‘I’m excited to be back for another year at the club that I have grown up around for the last 10 years. Hopefully this season I can continue to improve as a player and be a part of a winning team!’
