The YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the return of defenceman #71 Jack Murray for the 23/24 season.
Jack proved to be a vital player last season on the blue line for the wild, contributing 5 assists and a goal with 23 PIMS. Murray began playing for Blackburn hawks U16 in 2013 and followed through the academy into the senior side until 2020. In his time icing for the hawks, he played 164 games, scoring 32 goals, assisting 23 times and racking up 305 PIMS. The 23/24 season will be Jack’s 3rd consecutive season with Widnes, since switching from the hawks after the pandemic and will be wanting to progress further with the team.
Player-coach Joey Coulter said the following about Jack;
‘Very happy to see Jack Murray back for the new season and I’m looking forward to working with him. It’s easy to forget he’s one of the younger players in the squad, just recently turning 22 years old and I think he has a lot more to offer this upcoming campaign. For a defensive player he is very comfortable on the puck, good range of passing and plays physical where he can. I’ve watched all the games back and, on several occasions, Jack was our best performing D-man, he has a good understanding of our style of play, and I am expecting those kinds of performances more consistently.’
Meanwhile, Jack Murray added;
‘I’m excited to get back on the ice with the boys for another season at Widnes. When Joey asked me to come back, it wasn’t a hard decision at all. I can’t wait for the season to start again and for us to show everyone what we can do.’
