Your YKK sponsored Widnes Wild are delighted to announce that #5 Rhys Edwards is back with the club for the 2023/24 season.
Rhys, who is product of the Bradford academy, first joined the Wild last season after playing for the Bradford Juniors for 7 years. Comfortable playing both forward and in defence, Rhys has joined the club primarily in the forward role. Last season, Rhys registered 27 points, of which 12 were goals, in 29 games.
Head Coach, Joey Coulter, had the following to say about Rhys’: “After an incredible breakout year with the Wild, I’m very excited to see what Rhys Edwards can do in his second season at senior hockey. There wasn’t any pressure on him to be productive but I think everyone in Widnes could see after a couple of weeks how much natural talent he possesses, and then kicks on to finish the season as one of our top point scorers. Any fan that knows their hockey, they know Rhys Edwards is a joy to watch.”
Coulter added “He’s very creative on the puck and never passes an opportunity to finish a hit, just a nightmare for defencemen. I know he’s been putting in the hours this summer and with some experience now under his belt, I think Rhys will play a pivotal role in our success this season.”
Meanwhile, Rhys added about his new contract: “I am really pleased to have been asked to join the Wild again this season. I was made to feel incredibly welcome by everyone in my first senior season, and I cannot wait to see what we can do as a team this coming year.”
