The DMUK Widnes Wild women’s team play their last game of the regular season this Sunday 23rd April when they take on Leeds Roses at Planet Ice Widnes, 4.25pm face off.
Leeds Roses are a new team in the league this season and this is their first visit to the Widnes rink. The Wild women beat them 1-9 away back in November but the Roses currently occupy 4th place in the league table and could provide difficult opposition in a game that Widnes need to win to give their play off hopes a boost.
The top two finishing teams in the Division 2 North league table will qualify for the end of season play offs – which will be held in Sheffield at the end of May – where they will take on the top two teams from Division 2 South to decide which team will win promotion to Division 1 for next season.
League leaders Solway Sharks have already claimed the first play off berth and made sure of the league title with a 16-0 win over Kingston Diamonds on Saturday and Widnes are currently holding on to second spot.
However, even if they win against Leeds on Sunday, it’s not cut and dried as Telford Wrekin Raiders are sitting menacingly in 3rd place in the table and have games in hand. If Telford win all of their remaining games, they will overtake Widnes in the table and bag the other play off spot – so the Wild women will be hoping that Solway can extend their impressive 100% record for the season even further when they play the Raiders in Shropshire on 6th May.
Wild Junior Academy
The Wild Academy Under 12 team – who secured the North U12 league title last weekend – play their last game of the regular season at home to Hull at Planet Ice Widnes on Saturday 22nd April – 4.20pm face off. The Wild Under 16 team take on Blackburn U16s straight afterwards at 6pm.
On Sunday, the Academy Under 18 team play away to Manchester U18s, 5.30pm face off.
Admission to all Academy home games at Planet Ice Widnes is free and spectators are encouraged to go along and support the Wild stars of the future.
