We’re Unveiling Greatness With WUG

Widnes Wild are delighted to announce the re-signing of defenceman Will Daley for the 2026/27 season.

Heading into his third season in Widnes, Daley has established himself as one of the club’s brightest young talents and a firm favourite amongst the Wild faithful. Affectionately known as “Wug”, the talented blueliner has enjoyed an impressive start to his Wild career, consistently developing his game while becoming an integral part of the team’s defensive unit.

His outstanding performances during the 2025/26 campaign were recognised at the club’s end-of-season awards, where he collected both the Fans’ Young Player of the Season and Best Defenceman of the Season awards, underlining both his development and the impact he has made in Widnes colours.

Still early in his senior career, Daley returns for another season determined to continue his progression as the Wild look to build on the foundations laid during the previous campaign.

Speaking after agreeing to return for the 2026/27 season, Daley said:

“I am delighted to be returning to the Wild for the 2026/27 season.

Last season’s results showed just how close we were to the top teams and proved we can go toe to toe with every team in the league.

There’s a lot of unfinished business and next season we will reverse those narrow defeats.

Let’s fill the Jungle… Let’s Go Wild!”

Head Coach Tom Jackson believes Dailey’s best hockey is still ahead of him.

“William ‘WUG’ Daley is a name I’ll never get tired of welcoming back to Widnes.

For a younger guy, he’s really set his own tone since the day he first arrived here. He’s had a couple of excellent years developing within our system, and this season I’ll be challenging him to push for that next level in his game.

He’s earned that opportunity, and I’m excited to see how he responds.”

At just the start of his Wild journey, Daley has already become an important member of the club’s defensive core. His continued development reflects the club’s commitment to helping young players reach their potential, and the Wild are excited to see what the talented defenceman can achieve in his third season wearing black and yellow.

Supporters and businesses now have the opportunity to back one of the club’s brightest young stars for the 2026/27 campaign.

Player sponsorship packages for Wug are now available, offering businesses and supporters the chance to partner with the reigning Fans’ Young Player of the Season and Best Defenceman. Sponsors will receive exposure across the club’s social media channels, website and matchnight communications throughout the season while supporting the continued growth of hockey in Widnes.

Fans can also secure a piece of the action through the club’s popular Own & Loan scheme. Both Daley’s home and away jerseys are available for £70 each, giving supporters the opportunity to follow Wug’s third season with the Wild before taking ownership of a game-worn jersey at the end of the campaign.
